TIme to Celebrate Daniel Boone at Boone's Creek Day June 9th

Music, food and crafts will be the order of the day June 9 when residents can gather to celebrate Boone's Creek Day, named for the area’s namesake, Daniel Boone.

Boone's Creek Day will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. June 9 on the grounds of Boones Creek Potters Gallery, 2362 Boones Creek Road, and the house will also be open for tours.

Boones Creek Potters Gallery is the perfect location for Boones Creek Day, given it’s housed in a historic home where the area’s country doctor, Joseph Clark, lived in the 1800’s. The Clark house was built around 1890 and Clark moved into it in 1896. Clark was a doctor and was one of four in the area. The Clark House served as the doctor’s office.

Music, crafts and history...what a great way to spend the day!

Don't Miss the Upcoming Roan Mountain Rhododendron Festival!

June 1947 saw the first of the Rhododendron Festivals, conceived and carried out by the Roan Mountain Citizens Club as a two-day celebration to memorialize and perpetuate the most gorgeous display of natural beauty on the North American continent.

This festival has continued uninterrupted for over fifty years. The festival is held the third weekend or fourth weekend of June, depending on the peak of the rhododendron bloom. Originally the festival was held at the top of Roan Mountain. This year the festival dates are: Saturday and Sunday, June 16-17, 2012, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The festival is held in Roan Mountain State Park, located at the foot of Roan Mountain and features handmade crafts, food, and a variety of traditional music, plus an array of old-time folkway demonstrations.

Do not miss a chance to experience this special time of year!
