The Real Story of Thanksgiving
Hmmm... How many of us think of Thanksgiving as having been a traditional holiday since 1621? Not so! The Pilgrims first celebrated with a Thanksgiving feast in 1621, but there was no pumpkin pie or cranberry sauce! And, did you know that the event was wiped from the history books for 200 years? Even in the 1800s, some Southern states thought Thanksgiving was an abolitionist plot and refused to celebrate it!
It was not until World War II that Thanksgiving actually became an annual national holiday. How did we get from a somber Puritan day of prayer to a now-celebrated holiday with football and food? Check out this week's History Channel guide for "The Real Story of Thanksgiving".
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
